Privacy Policy

Effective October 5, 2026 · Last updated October 5, 2026

The short version: we collect the minimum needed to show you your ballot and remember your answers. We do not sell your personal information, and we never share your individual answers with any candidate, campaign, party, or political committee.

1. Who we are and what this covers

Polifine is a free, nonpartisan voter information service that helps people compare candidates on their own ballot using documented public evidence. Polifine is published by Mojo4Good, a Michigan nonprofit corporation, and operated on its behalf by MoJo Global Group, LLC (together, “Polifine,” “we,” “us”), Canton, MI 48188. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it. It applies to polifine.org and to the Polifine mobile applications.

2. Information we collect

3. How we use your information

4. Text messages (SMS)

If you add a mobile number, we send a one-time passcode to confirm you control that number. SMS is used only for account verification — registration, sign-in, and password reset. We do not send marketing, promotional, campaign, election, or fundraising messages by SMS. Message frequency varies: one message per verification request. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help and STOP to cancel. You may remove your mobile number at any time in account settings, which stops all SMS. A full description of the programme, including the opt-in screen, is published at SMS verification.

Carrier commitment: mobile information will never be sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories of data sharing described in this policy exclude text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third party.

5. What we never do

6. Aggregate and de-identified research

Polifine publishes and may license statistical summaries of how groups of users prioritize issues — for example, “in one Michigan district, housing was among the top three issues for a majority of respondents.” These summaries are aggregated across many users, contain no names, emails, phone numbers, or precise locations, and are produced only at a minimum group size so that no individual can be identified or singled out. Any recipient of aggregate data is contractually prohibited from attempting re-identification. You consent to this use when you create an account, and you may contact us to opt out of having your responses included in future aggregate datasets.

7. When we share information

8. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand aggregate usage. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not carry advertising. Where consent is required, analytics technologies load only after you consent. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

9. How long we keep information

We keep account information while your account is active. Anonymous guest sessions are deleted after 30 days. Verification codes are deleted after they expire. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must retain it for legal or security reasons. Aggregate data that no longer identifies you may be retained indefinitely.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy law, including the right to know, delete, correct, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under those laws.

11. Children

Polifine is intended for people who are eligible to vote or preparing to vote and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We protect information using encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we will update the date at the top of this page.
